About John Nix
John Nix was born and raised in Texas. At the age of 15, he entered a private leadership school in Michigan and became a supervisor in the school’s building trades division. In 1999, at the age of 20, John became a licensed and bonded General Contractor in the State of Michigan. John spent several years in humanitarian aid work in the U.S. and around the world.
In 2001, John and his father, Steve Nix, relocated Nix Construction, Inc. to Tyler. John married Stori Hadden, a native Tylerite, in 2005. They are proud parents to their daughter Grey. Both John and Stori are active members and volunteers of Grace Community Church. Currently, he is President of Nix Construction, Inc. and Nix Builders, and owner of Nix Properties, LLC. His companies design, bid, and build miles of public and private infrastructure for his projects.
John believes that his business experience in the service industry has given him the ability to help people from all sectors of the community communicate, understand each other and cooperate. He recognizes that the struggles of establishing and maintaining a business are priceless experiences. He also understands how cities can positively or negatively affect businesses through services, fees, permitting, and inspection processes.
John has a passion for efficient city government and has volunteered for the City of Tyler on multiple boards and committees continuously since 2008. He has also served three terms in elected office as District 6 Council member for the City of Tyler.
“I take these experiences with me in every aspect of my community service, with the aim of making Tyler successful…today and into the future”, he said.
